Donating Land: HB908

Virginia House Bill #908 would, if enacted, expedite the process of claiming a tax credit for donating your farmland or forested land to a "conservation agency" instead of selling or leaving it to anyone who actually wants to live on it. Full text:

Fellow Virginians, you can't take it with you. "Conservation agencies" have lifespans, and periods of financial desperation, just as people do. The sole "benefit" of giving land to a "conservation agency" rather than a person or family is that, when an "agency" gets its greedy hands on the land, that land is unlikely to be used as a traditional, small, privately owned farm within the next fifty years. Europeans may want to replicate the old feudal idea of huge, lushly natural fiefs for the rich and slums for the poor, but Virginia can do so much better than that.
