Newt Gingrich's New Contract with America

Newt Gingrich wants to take out a new Contract With America. You can view his short list here:

A few notes...

1. He wants to replace Obamacare, not simply repeal it. He's not pledging to protect us from the greedhead insurance companies that have made medical care so expensive.

2. He wants to make more tax cuts. Everybody loves a tax cut, but can this country afford them?

3. He wants to "unleash America's full energy production in oil...coal...nuclear oil shale..." (I'm assuming there was meant to be a comma in "nuclear oil shale.") In other words, drill in the wildlife preserves, flatten more mountains, slap up more nuclear reactors, break up the bedrock beneath our feet, and generally destroy the continent to keep the Waste Age booming along until the Big Boom from one of those nuclear reactors wipes us all out.

4. He wants to rush new medical treatments onto the market without "blocking" them in boring old safety trials. Woo-hoo. He's forgotten "breakthroughs" like thalidomide, X-rays with every new pair of shoes, flu shots, IUD, and Vioxx? He never saw The Awakenings or The Case of the Frozen Addicts?

And don't forget...whatever Newt Gingrich is saying, he's not a man of his word.
