Here's the e-mail announcement of Catherine Turner's upcoming appearance on radio. This is about the proposed designation of Washington County, and the rest of Virginia's Ninth congressional district, as a "National Historic Area." While some hope that being a "National Historic Area" will protect us from the horrors of strip mining and fracking, others fear that it will interfere with people's right to maintain and improve their families' homes and farms. (My article on this topic is here.)
Please turn your dials to
92.9FM this Weds morning at 8AM to hear an interview I
did with Steve Hawkins on the local WFHG
SuperTalk morning drive show.
One of the issues that may not be completely clear is the futility
of Congressman Griffith's assurances about "fixing the language" in the bill. I don't feel that
how and why this is an impossibility was adequately addressed---namely
because of mandated compliance with NEPA and
the National Historic Preservation Act. The management plan must comply, or the new "managing entity" that takes the place of our
elected representatives will not get their federal
money, freshly borrowed from China and hot off the
printing press.
Another issue that bears discussion is this: Steve Hawkins
was unwilling to believe that this designation can come with the authority to enforce the management plan.
With 49 other NHA designations and MILLIONS of property rights abuses resulting
from radical conservation programs, eminent domain,
etc etc, don't ask me why there is such a reluctance
to believe that all these documented facts come with consequences.
(Perhaps because it is so inconceivable that our Republic can be so quietly and effortlessly lost???)
Can you say "code enforcement"? For those of you who have seen Don Casey's
presentations, you will recall that the Code Enforcement Officer will be very busy seeing that the tenets of the management
plan are enforced.
Please tune in and call these numbers to share your concern about this outrageous plan
to give District 9 over to an unelected board:

PS: Here is the
WashCo Board of Supervisors video of The
Crooked Road presentation. Don't miss the public comment at the
beginning!
Please note also that
Executive Director Jack Hinshelwood's powerpoint presentation
contains NO documentation from government websites or
publications regarding this designation. Just as it was with their twelve (total) "public information meetings",
it is solely TCR's statements
that are presented:
