Should Ammunition Be Sold Online?

If President Obama is in favor of an encroachment on anybody's use of firearms, some people will cry foul. The link below isn't working from this computer today; it's posted so that those who are really interested can go to Freedom Outpost dot com and track it down...

But I'd like to say, for the record, that although I believe any law-abiding adult who has not been certified insane should be able to buy firearms as specified in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, I do see some problems with selling firearms or ammunition online. Who are the market? People who can't walk into a gun shop and buy whatever's sold there, because the storekeeper would recognize them as convicted felons? And who are the dealers? People who can't operate a licensed gun shop and connect with each other at gun shows, because they know they're trafficking in merchandise stolen from their legitimate colleagues?

If people who want to trade firearms online are legitimate, maybe they should be communicating with each other and with their legislators to ensure that their business stays legitimate. Dealers in secondhand and recyclable merchandise of all kinds have evolved ways of checking up on those who might want to sell one of us a load of goods they had just stolen from another one of us last week. Some kinds of merchandise naturally attract more dishonest people than others. Those who handle merchandise that's highly attractive to criminals need to make sure their background-checking techniques keep pace with their marketing techniques.

Online gun sales just sounds like a business that inherently needs a bit of red tape. Not necessarily a lot, but some.
