Bill Carrico Announces "Veterans Expo"

SENATOR PHILLIP PUCKETT AND SENATOR BILL CARRICO ANNOUNCE FREE VETERANS EXPO

Expo Geared to Help Veterans and Their Families

WISE (November 9, 2012) – Senators Phillip Puckett and Bill Carrico today announced that they will host the 2012 Veterans Expo to help Veterans gain insight into the services, resources and opportunities available to them and their families in the Southwest Virginia region. The Expo will offer information about career opportunities, education, health and community support that is specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of Veterans and their families.

“I am honored to co-host the Veterans Expo Event with Sen. Bill Carrico. I want to encourage all veterans to plan to attend the special event. It is our opportunity to say thank you to all our veterans and help them learn about and understand available services and benefits,” said Puckett.

Veterans and their family members are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the Veterans Expo that will be held at the David J. Prior Convocation Center of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise in Wise from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th. Registration is open through November 16th. “First, let me say ‘thank you’ to the members of our armed forces, our veterans, and their families for your sacrifice and dedicated service to our country,” said Carrico. “I am honored to serve as co-host for this year’s Veterans Expo, and I want to urge all or our veterans and their families to take full advantage of the information and services provided by our many partners.”

There will be Federal, State and local Veteran agencies participating, including the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program and Virginia Department of Veterans Services. Workshops and booths will provide Veterans with assistance in resume writing, succeeding in job, interviews, career counseling, and how to translate military experience to civilian occupations as well as credit counseling, small business startups, understanding benefits and other topics. There will also be several local colleges/universities, healthcare representatives and local community groups in attendance.

The free event is for Veterans and their family members. Attendees are encouraged to register in order to ensure adequate resources for all attendees. Some veteran services may require the DD214 and/or Veteran’s Identification.
