Absolutely no Web surfing took place on 9.15.26. I went out in the poisoned air and spent the rest of the day feeling sleepy and dopey. Now I don't want to get too far from the bathroom. This is an ongoing problem that has reached a point where it could be solved by the usual solution to all problems I've had, namely money. Rather large amounts of money I'm afraid; I'm not asking for pocket change. If you are an old, rich relative who could stand to part with a couple hundred thousand dollars you're only going to pay taxes on, let's talk. Offline. This web site will now address the more typical Internet audience who do your reading at work or school to save the cost of buying books. This web site recommends that you buy more books, selectively.
You can of course select my light verse chapbook, The First Book of Bad Poetry (TM), which contains all new poems that have never appeared here. They were on my Substack. Once a year the Substack poems become a book. There's still room for a few founding subscribers to receive them, free of charge, as they appear. If the Internet lasts, eventually subscriptions will cost money, as do books.
Meanwhile...
Animals
Monarch butterflies start migrating south.
Fashion
Found on the Lonely Libertarian blog. Lens credits Carol Alexander-Price on Facebook. This is why most women would rather run the wasteful air conditioning in the car than just roll down the windows.
Food
Pawpaws are coming into season. They are safe to eat...for most people. Some people are allergic to pawpaws. Like bananas, they're ripe and edible when they look rotten, the peels black, the fruit mushy. They can be picked, or picked up, while slightly green and ripened in the house for a day or two. If green, however, they're toxic. Like green tomatoes, they contain enough of the plant's biochemical defense to go beyond being merely indigestible.
What happens when human-made chemicals are thrown into the mix? My guess is that that's when pawpaws, soursops, and other foods like bananas and tomatoes, really become toxic. The pawpaw is not a fruit anyone should ever try picking green and ripening with glyphosate. It bites back. Especially if cooked. In olden days the pioneers who might have had no other fruit when they binged on pawpaws didn't get Parkinson's Disease, but pawpaws in the diet and paraquat in the air do not mix well.
Music
Glen Campbell.
Kurt Elling.
Willie Nelson.
Kellie Pickler.
Kentucky Headhunters.
Johnny Cash (with Jimmy Rodgers).
If you play it at normal speed, this is exercise music with a madly speeded-up video of how someone drew a cartoon robot in Windows Excel. (Yes, Windows had invented graphics programs before this; the person was showing off, using Excel.) I've not tried slowing it down, but it might be possible to learn something about computer graphics that way.
John Mitchell and Jim Feeney.
The Troggs. (Yes, this is one of the world's most stupid songs. That is what makes it special. One of the sisters and I used to laugh at it.)
Mark Knopfler.
Jordan Winkler. (Topical, with rude language.)
The Divinyls. (The kind of desperate caterwauling that would scare any man in his right mind away from these girls--they don't look that bad, but wow, what a heap of needy.)
Exercise music with cartoons.
Extremely rude parody from the Obama years. If you listen, don't let your parents/children know. If you're too young to remember, note the internal inconsistencies of the accusations...nobody is trying to claim that Obama did any of these things, only that they thought it would have been funny if he did.
Macklemore (the song parodied, above).
Celtic Thunder.
Choo Choo Eddy.
Some unidentified church group.
Slim Harpo.
Bellamy Brothers.
Peppermint Harris.
Computer-generated barbershop quartet.
Second Amendment
Found on the Mirror. Lens says it was posted as a black-and-white photo, with the same caption, by Jim Smrt on Linked In, later cartoonified and colored and used by lots of other people.
I don't think I've ever read all of The Federalist Papers or even found them in one place, but should you know anyone stupid enough to try to reopen any further debate about gun bans, the most relevant interpretation of the Second Amendment is FP #46, written by James Madison.
Technology
Why is anyone paying rent on things we used to buy--may have already bought and discarded in favor of the newest thing! If you're serious about ending climate change and keeping obnoxious "data center" construction out of your neighborhood, STOP PAYING RENT FOR ELECTRONICS. Remember, people can live well without any electronics. Landline phones or none. Computers with hard drives or none. Chip-free appliances (and cars) or none. Tell the corporations we're not paying rent on "the cloud" (any more, if we ever did). They can only do what the market allows. We are the market. We can stop this abomination--if we choose. We can make "the cloud" backfire like the Edsel, like Dylan Mulvaney.
