Tim Kaine on Offshore Drilling

To the extent the opposition to offshore drilling exists in Virginia, it seems to be an east-west thing. This is not a topic people in Gate City are talking about. However, here's the e-mail from U.S. Senator Tim Kaine...the link goes to Facebook, but for Facebook the page behaves reasonably well, so I'll leave it in.

"
Yesterday, I submitted my official public comment to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) opposing President Trump’s proposal to open Virginia’s coast to oil and gas drilling. Input from Virginians and from the Department of Defense convinced me that the risks of offshore drilling outweigh the rewards. It could hurt our defense assets in Hampton Roads, threaten our tourism economy, and accelerate climate change.
When Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke announced Florida would be exempt from drilling, he stated, “local voice matters.” I strongly agree. It's so important to make your voice heard. Virginians interested in submitting their public comments to BOEM can do so here before the deadline Friday.
