Do people read blogs on Thanksgiving Day? I'm sure that, if they do, they don't read book reviews. Well, this is a minimalist book review...
Title: Kilkenny
Author: Louis L’Amour
Publisher: Ace
Date: 1954
ISBN: none
Length: 175 pages
Quote: “[T]here’s a minister in Horsehead. I think we should go see him.”
As at the beginning of so many “western” stories, Kilkenny was just minding his business when a troublemaker made it necessary for Kilkenny to shoot him to death in front of a half-dozen witnesses. Though they’ll agree that it was self-defense, they can also tell Kilkenny that he now has a powerful enemy. Kilkenny rides off into the desert, planning to give this enemy a preview of where people like him deserve to go in the afterlife. Much riding, fighting, shooting, and also courting follow.
People who like this sort of story generally agree that Louis L’Amour was among the world’s best writers of it. I found a good deal on a whole bag of his books. Local lurkers may form a line.
