Quote: “Microware…was specifically designed for use in microwave ovens. It is also suitable for use in conventional ovens at temperatures up to 400℉ (204℃).”
With only five pages of recipes, this brittle little booklet hardly deserves to be called a cookbook. (The recipes are for something utterly American that’s called coq au vin, poached eggs, “Harvey Wallbanger Cake” (orange cake soaked in alcohol), stuffed peppers, baked late-summer vegetables, mini-quiches, baked chicken, and raspberry cheesecake.) However, if you’re a cookbook collector who is into 1970s fad items, and/or an owner of a Microware dish as shown in the photos, you must have it. I find it hard to imagine a person who is not in one of those two categories wanting this book.
So what, exactly, was Microware? The manufacturers described it as “space age material.” As shown, it was a set of ceramic dishes, each about a foot square and all designed to stack up about two feet high for efficient storage, with an unmistakable early 1970s look. There’s probably a reason why it’s not being advertised today.
