Book Review: Christmas Cakes and Crooks

Title: Christmas Cakes and Crooks

Author: Karen McSpade

Date: 2023

Quote: "I don't go home for the holidays." "I think you should. In fact, I'm giving you the whole month..."

Holly Sinclair didn't realize she was on camera when she told the rest of the staff of her TV cooking show what she thought about the show and the broadcaster. But her old school boss knows a yuppie who's not 100% dedicated to the company when he hears one throwing a diva fit. Besides, Holly's sisters, Noelle and Joy, want her back at home.

Holly didn't think she wanted to go back to Montana, especially in December with a big snowstorm on the way. But she is the heir to a flourishing bakery where she enjoys working, and the boy she used to have a crush on is now a detective on the town police force, and Holly is now old enough to interest him. No points for guessing where Holly's career path is going when a dognapping case teases her childhood Nancy Drew fantasies, on top of everything else...

This is a very cozy mystery. Holly doesn't even have to look at the crooks to bring them to justice. Nobody's hurt (the dognappers have dogs vetted and return them if they have any medical problems), and the main danger is that the Sinclair sisters and their dear old Dad may eat too many yummy desserts...two recipes at the back of the book.

If you like small town bakeries, snow for Christmas, cozy mysteries, cute dogs, and detectives who are likely to decide to be Partners For Life, Christmas Cakes and Crooks will be your cup of tea. With cranberry pound cake.
