Belated Feline Friday Post: Shades of Gray

So I was offline on Friday. I wasn't ill; my computer was. My old faithful desktop computer, \has been in the shop a few times; it has one recurring glitch, and it's run out of memory a few times, and it showed some damage after the great electric power grid failure two weeks ago. It's been my companion for about twenty years. It has Windows ME, the quintessential, almost perfect, home office computer program. Not having it around the house feels all wrong. Especially since the other desktop computer, which succumbed to heat exhaustion last summer, is still in the shop.

Anyway, Friday was the first really cold day of winter. Getting the desktop computer down the icy road and into the shop was quite an adventure, and took the core right out of the day.

The animals still need homes, so here they are, the cutest pictures of adoptable gray animals...There is no cute story about why I picked gray for the theme this week. Because there are a lot of adoptable gray cats, and we've not featured them lately, that's why. The dog Petfinder was nudging me to post is black.

Zipcode 10101: Bambi from the Bronx

He has an interesting story. About a year old, he sounds quite social, always letting his sister have the first treat. Loves to snuggle, never hisses. So why have they waived the adoption fee? Some true humanitarian wants this cat not to be spoiled by the shelter experience, maybe. Or maybe they want you to ask about that sister. Anyway, it might be worth inquiring about the fine print in his adoption contract.

Zipcode 20202: Bailey from DC

Her adoption fee is on the steep side but there's a discount if you take one of her two siblings; a further discount if you take both might be negotiable. They're spring kittens. The adoption contract includes mandatory sterilization, with a deadline and a price reduction if you schedule ahead with their vet.

Zipcode 30303: Gracie from Marietta

Another one of three gray kittens. They're all the flat gray that is really the diluted version of black so they're called Ashley, Ashton, and Gracie. They are in a foster home. They are bouncy-pouncy roly-poly cute things.

Now the dogs:

Zipcode 30303: Banks from Smyrna

His web page: https://www.petfinder.com/dog/banks-73012519/ga/smyrna/rescuing-rescues-ga1100/

Thought to be a Husky and Shepherd mix, Banks should one day grow up to look like a serious police-type dog, but as a spring puppy he is said to be a playful, frivolous litle boy. (Well, little relative to his parents; he weighs 48 pounds and will probably weigh more next year.)

Zipcode 20202: Sally from DC

"Shepherd mix." She sounds more like an Australian Shepherd than a German Shepherd but she's described as a snuggler who loves affection, attention, and adventures. If you want to rev up your metabolism with a sprint or at least a good brisk walk five times a day, this is the dog for you. Aussies can have a serious, protective, let's say very very assertive side, but they most often find themselves in shelters because people who like the look of their coats aren't energetic enough to keep up with the dogs. They tend to like people who have been told things like "Slow down" and "Wait for me" and "You make me tired," by other humans. They try to be patient with the slower kind of humans, but sluggish people aren't capable of being equally tolerant with them.

Zipcode 10101: Dalma from Puerto Rico

This four-year-old, forty-pound crossbreed is described as a sweet and noble dog who aims to please.  The usual deal: out-of-town pets come with a steep adoption fee if you pay for them to be transported to the city where they're advertised. Sometimes a lower fee is negotiable if you're closer to where they are, and sometimes someone wants to visit the city.

Bonus Dog: Sable from Kingsport

Sometimes Petfinder has a suggestion for these posts. This is a very special dog for a particular person Out There. Sable the Squishmaster is a super snuggler. He likes to be as close to his human as possible and has to be led out for walks to keep his preferred position, the "sofa squish," from becoming painful for the humans involved. He will stick tight to his human. This is because he is blind.
