The Cats' Christmas Carols

While prowling the Web looking for a quick last-minute lead into this week's photo contest, I found this meme.

It was posted at the Mirror by a Disqussant called Delta Queen. Google's not tracing it further than that. Maybe it was new and original.

Anyway...This week's most appealing rescue cat photos, as chosen by me, your choices might be different, each with a seasonal song parody.

Zipcode 10101: Katy from New York City

"Silent mice! Isn't it nice!
I've chased them out onto the ice,
While you have decked trees with tinsel and bells
And other things to please yourselves.
I deserve a reward, oh,
I deserve a reward!

Silent mice! Isn't it nice!
I've done it once; I'll do it twice.
All I ask you for in return:
Simple gifts, you can easily learn.
I like chicken and fish,
I like chicken and fish."

Katy-cat is said to be young, just about as big as she should ever get, going on two years old, cheerful and adaptable.

Zipcode 20202: City from DC

"I saw Mommy hissing Santa Claus;
Then they put us in a box
And we scratched it with our claws and paws,
But it was the kind that locks,
And they put us in a very nice house,
Which we know is not our home,
And so far I've not even seen a mouse,
Just these things that break like bubbles on the foam."

City-kitty has brothers called Witty and Bitty. They are at the peak of bouncy-pounciness. Leaving one of them alone on a table full of ornaments...seems like an appeal to sensible readers. Come and rescue these kittens before they get themselves into any more trouble, please! They are three distinct shades of gray. Witty is more of a light black. Bitty is a darker gray tabby than City.

Zipcode 30303: Brie from Atlanta

"A stray in the manger, no proper cat bed,
Winds up in a shelter, I have heard it said.
I have every asset except for a  home.
Won't you find one for me? Then no more I'll roam."

Yet another cat had kittens and was put in a shelter for that reason. The kittens are fine healthy specimens, almost show quality Siamese. People who let their cats have kittens when they do not want kittens can't be expected to think very clearly.

Zipcode 10101:  Tommy from NYC

"Fleas navi-dog! Fleas navi-dog!
Fleas navi-dog...from the bottom of my heart!
I've had some hard times, times when I've been covered in fleas,
But kind people solved the flea problem and others like these.
If someone will only adopt me, I'll try not to stray,
I've learned, dogs do not find good things by wandering away.
Fleas navi-dog!"

There is some confusion at Tommy's web page. For one thing, either somebody messed up on the computer, or Tommy's gender is non-binary. They do seem clear on the main point that Tommy is a nice pup who'd make a good pet for somebody Out There.

20202: King from DC

"Santa, bring me bones to chew,
And some made of leather, too.
Bring me a chewable squeaky toy!
I have been such a good boy!"

This web site has invited all animal rescuers to call animals with black coats and amber eyes "Priscilla" or "King," depending on gender. This "King" is still just a half-grown puppy, thought to be more retriever than anything else. He likes walks and games and things he can chew on that are not anyone's shoes, or books, or legs. Retrievers can be hard to train to do anything but be their lovable, not too bright selves, but that face suggests some bull terrier cleverness too.

Zipcode 30303: Sienna from Houston

"I'll have a blue Christmas without you.
I'll be so blue, just thinking about you.
Decorations of red on your green Christmas tree
That will not be pulled down and chewed by me!
And when you're wishing you had a puppy
I shall be wishing I had been lucky.
Won't you please offer me a bed under the tree?
Then we'll have a merry Christmas!"

Houston is a long way from Atlanta. Sienna wasn't finding a home in one place so she's now listed on a different web page. Someone from Texas will bring her to you if you can promise her a good home. She is still a baby, just learning essential puppy survival skills, but you can see that she wants to grow up to be a good dog.
