Quote: "Your cream has turned me green!"
Adelaide's family are contemporary pop-culture witches with a twist: Each member of the female line develops magic powers around age fifty, then loses them when the next one reaches that age. Having lost her mother, Addie has to connect with a rather distant aunt, a heavy-drinking adventuress whose life with neither hormones nor magic is likely to be difficult, to get any guidance in using her new abilities. She discovers she has them when they go wrong: ordinary unenchanted lotions she makes and sells start working like magic potions, reflecting her intentions for her friends...Gwen, who always envied Addie's beauty, rubs on some hand lotion and her skin turns bright green.
And now an attractive man from the witches' self-policing organization is watching Addie, unfortunately not in the way she'd prefer to be watched by him. And next, so is the ordinary local police, when Gwen is murdered. Addie has to find out whodunit to clear herself of suspicion. Well...she wants to find out.
I smiled, repeatedly. Can't say I laughed out loud, but this book is funny. It might be safe to read while eating, or it might not, depending on your mood.
