Last week, I requested that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) grant rehearings on the Mountain Valley Pipeline and Atlantic Coast Pipeline petitions. I found it very suspicious that FERC approved the MVP and ACP on 2-1 votes, when two of the five commissioner slots were vacant, in a very unusual split decision. After traveling around Virginia and reading letters that many of you wrote in with concerns about the process, I agreed that there is good reason to ask FERC for a rehearing.
That's why last week, I wrote to FERC calling for them to accept the requests of petitioners and rehear MVP and ACP now that the Commission has a full bench. Asking that Virginia gets a fair shake given the unusual circumstances around FERC's vote shouldn't be too much to ask. It's important for Virginians to have confidence in the integrity of FERC's process and for every step of that process to be followed to the fullest extent of the law.
