Will Technology Be the Enemy Within?

A few common-sense observations about computer technology:

1. Any task computers are used to simplify, malfunctioning computers can complicate.

2. Any computer can be made to malfunction by exposing it to the right sort of electromagnetic energy.

3. Most of our high-tech gadgets are made in other countries.

4. When people build their lives and work around gadgets that can easily be sabotaged, especially by people in the not completely friendly countries where the gadgets were made, immense destruction can be wrought just by sabotaging those gadgets.

Logical conclusion: If you're one of the people, like me, who expect power outages every week or two, stock up on canned instead of frozen veg, at least try to print out everything you've done on the computer so you'll be able to work on it without relying on the computer, have a way to get water out of your spring or well that does not depend on an electric pump, keep your woodshed full and your chimney clean, and generally maintain the ability to survive completely off the electric/electronic power grid, you're more likely than the average American to survive the next national military crisis.

I'm not saying "Go Amish and don't take advantage of the Web." (Though I am saying that it might, in case of a military crisis, be prudent to use communally owned electronic gadgets that are stored in a place that is nobody's home.) I am recommending that everybody out there make a regular practice of unplugging everything, going totally wireless/disconnected/e-free, I mean not even a refrigerator, say one weekend a month...just to motivate yourselves to structure your work in such a way that you'll be able to survive an attack on the power grid. Or a plain old power outage caused by plain old wear and tear.

And, need we mention? We do not want a "smart grid." For home safety purposes a dumb, slow, oldfashioned power grid is better.

I'm not suggesting that we all go into panic mode and interpret every power outage as an act of war; I'm saying that, if we're all prepared to carry on with hardly a blink when an ordinary broken tree limb or playful squirrel causes a power outage, it'll be less tempting for malcontents at home and abroad to try creating power outages as an act of war.

Was Trayvon Martin a Communist?

It seems unlikely that Trayvon Martin belonged to the Communist Party, but Terresa Monroe-Hamilton has documented that some of the old White guys currently claiming to "be Trayvon" did...

And why is that bad? Why was the Communist Party ever a threat to national security, when so many Americans liked some of their ideas? Because the Communist Party openly favored force and violence, and wanted to foment dissent that would lead to violent crime and open the door to a violent revolution. And apparently some of those guys are still spoiling for a fight.

Hence events like this weekend's mugging, in which three Black goons told the White man they attacked that they were beating him up and stealing his money "for Trayvon." Ohhh be still my heart; I'm sure the Martin family felt sooo proud. (Not!)

TMH's e-friend Trevor Loudon can fairly be described as a McCarthyite...but it seems that, although the original ideals of Marxist "Communist" Parties worldwide are as dead as Lenin, we still need a few McCarthyites to help diagnose more current manifestations of violent insanity.

If I felt moved to do something in memory of Trayvon Martin, here are a quick few ideas I'd consider that would actually honor the young man and his family: Send his siblings, cousins, friends, or neighbors (as many of them as funds allowed) to college. Make a memorial donation to his school, or to a charity (was he even old enough to have had a favorite charity?). "Adopt" a highway or a park bench in his name. Light a small, cheap candle in his name and stand around it holding hands and eating Skittles. Compose a song for people to sing while doing any of these memorial rituals, or any other memorial ritual that may occur to them.

But do not start a color war in which more young people, including children younger and smaller and more innocent than Trayvon Martin, will be hurt. That is absolutely the worst memorial Martin could possibly have.

How to Watch an Anti-Obama Ad

Aaaack. Priscilla King recommends watching a TV ad? Say whaaat? I can hear the cognitive dissonance screech...so here's what happened:

(1) I saw an e-message from e-friend Terresa Monroe Hamilton about her having reposted an article by Lloyd Marcus at http://noisyroom.net. (The computer seems to want to display it in a funny way, but that's a live link to a legitimate blog. Warning: a lot of the posts are audio/video, so if you want the full effect of TMH's site you do need a noisy room.)

(2) So I clicked and read it. Well, it's a political blogger's article about making a political ad. I hit the Google+ button, for best in category.

(3) But the Google+ button at noisyroom.net didn't seem to be working, so apparently in order to + the article about making a political ad I have to post a link here and + that. Dang. Computers.
