Title: When the Time Was Fulfilled

Author: Eberhardt Arnold, Christoph Blumhardt, Alfred Delp

Date: 2007

Publisher: Plough

ISBN: 978–0–87486–940–8

Length: 164 pages

Quote: "Far too many of us come near to the manger, but refuse to let the Christ child penetrate our lives. This is why things remain as they are. The question before us is this: Will the Child come into the dusty, dirty cavern of our lives? Or will we just unthinkingly immerse ourselves in Christmas sights and sounds, content that all is shine?"

The forty short (2 to 5 pages) reflections in this book come from the writings of three radical Christian ministers in Germany: Blumhardt, the charismatic healer; Arnold, the communard who founded the Bruderhof; Delp, hanged in 1945 for helping Jews escape Nazi Germany. Though all three were controversial, their biographies leave no doubt that their faith "penetrated their lives."

Most of the selections were chosen and edited by Emmy Arnold in 1964. This second edition was expanded with more words from the original authors, plus two more short essays by Charles Moore.

If you want to be challenged to make your commitment to Christianity more radical, this book is for you.  I give it 4.8 stars.

Also worth 4.8 stars is this Advent carol video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKEUlJRQVbA .
