Bill Carrico Decries Terry McAuliffe's Agenda

From Virginia State Senator Bill Carrico:

Senator Carrico decries McAuliffe’s “Anti-Southwest” Agenda

McAuliffe’s proposals on coal and Second Amendment mirror Obama’s agenda

GALAX, VIRGINIA — December 18, 2014 — Senator Charles W. “Bill” Carrico, Sr. (R-Grayson) expressed his dissatisfaction with the focus of Governor Terence R. McAuliffe’s announced agenda for the upcoming 2015 session of the Virginia General Assembly.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had a governor promote an agenda as anti-Southwest as McAuliffe’s,” Senator Carrico declared.  “His proposals for 2015 are virtually identical to those being pushed by the Obama Administration in Washington.  They will cripple coal, violate our gun rights, and diminish our economy.

“The Obama Administration is fully committed to skyrocketing electricity prices by eliminating America’s most abundant and affordable domestic energy source, coal.  Now, Terry McAuliffe is cheering them on with his own anti-coal agenda.  His proposal to gut tax credits will cost jobs in Southwest Virginia and make it more expensive for every Virginian to keep their lights on.

“Governor McAuliffe is promoting more ways to limit the rights and freedoms of our citizens to own guns.  By adopting the extreme agenda of the anti-Second Amendment wing of his party, McAuliffe has gone all-in with Michael Bloomberg.

“As a result of the war on coal, many in our region have worked on diversifying our economy by promoting local farming.  Apparently not content to let anyone in our region make a living, McAuliffe is now championing the elimination of the land preservation tax credit.

“It is unthinkable that a governor of Virginia would be committed to lowering the standard of living for so many Virginians.  But if you live in Southwest, that’s exactly what Terry McAuliffe is trying to do.

“In the upcoming session, I will be doing everything I can to stymie the Obama-McAuliffe agenda.  I have been encouraged by the reaction of my colleagues in the Senate and the House, and I believe that we can thwart McAuliffe’s plans.”

Senator Charles W. “Bill” Carrico, Sr. represents the 40th District in the Senate of Virginia.  The 40th District is comprised of the Grayson, Lee, Scott, and Washington Counties, the City of Bristol, and portions of Smyth, Wise, and Wythe Counties.  He served in the House of Delegates from 2002 through 2012.
