Web Log for 3.20.24

I blame a Googlitch for delaying the appearance of yesterday's Petfinder post. I blame myself for prioritizing other jobs ahead of today's Long & Short Reviews post. I've not been ill; I've been busy. And I've been ticked off by Microsoft.

This afternoon, once again, my computer was STOLEN. Someone who did not pay for the computer, for the Internet connection, or for my time, STOLE MY COMPUTER FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR--running unnecessary "updates" that prevented the computer's doing anything useful.

Some links we need are to the petitions to Congress to make this "update" business a violation of federal law...this year, not next year. Computers for which private people are paying need to be programmed with their own Castle Doctrine: If it's interfering with the commands of the computer owner, through the keyboard, KILL IT. In order to run "updates" the corporations must be forced to wait until the computer is turned off, or "sleeping," so that they don't interfere with the business of the computer owner.

Any noticeable time theft due to "updates," or "cookies," or spyware of any kind, needs to be traced and the guilty company needs to be shut down until they've paid every computer owner they have inconvenienced a minimum of $100 per offense. Offenses being added per second of delay. And accepting non-cash payments needs to be left to the discretion of the individual--only US cash needs to be recognized as legal tender for any transaction taking place in the US.

Yes. I think feeling a heavy push back would be salutary for the greedheads...probably the only thing that can save their precious individual souls.

Anyway, the links...

Fiction

So far as I've seen this young man doesn't even identify as a writer, but he clearly has talent. Christian content may appear in any Link Log; it appears here.

Politics, Practical

Time to circle the wagons. Mind you, I still agree with Scott Adams, P.J. O'Rourke: The fact that people are immigrants does not make them all bad. If they encounter prejudice from "conservatives" and are welcomed, albeit in a patronizing, condescending, micromanaging, racist and elitist way, by the Undead Old Left, yes, that's going to shape their behavior. If they're welcomed by conservatives who can relate to them on the basis of Christian morality and home in on their individualist, libertarian, responsible, "conservative" work ethics, we can use them to rock the vote our way...which is frankly about the only way to absorb the economic impact of all these rootless people the current administration is allowing to pack into our cities. I'm not saying anyone should allow a decent neighborhood to be converted into an instant slum with stack-and-pack "housing." I am saying, if you have property that your heirs aren't eager to rent or inherit, this could be an indication that you're being called to adopt some hardworking young people from Mexico. Who will, following your logical arguments and appreciating your good will, support property rights and civil liberties.

I'm seeing a weird split among "conservative" correspondents my age and older. They say there's plenty of room for more people to have more babies in the places where they live--well, some of them do, the ones in the Midwest and West anyway. Then they fret about these immigrants...

But just say no to anything that tends to increase crowding. Our cities are grossly overcrowded already. I'm NOT saying this to encourage any ill will toward "gay" or "trans" people, but the fact that we're seeing enough people showing these physical reactions to overcrowding to form a political lobby should tell us that we have a serious problem with population density.
