"Derangement" is a whimsical exercise for poets: Pick a short poem you've written. "Derange" it by writing the words backward--last word first, and so on. Rearrange the reversed words further so that they make sense. Add and subtract words until the result looks like a new poem.
It's easiest to begin with a very short poem, such as a haiku.

elegant simplicity
like great blue heron
