Book Review: Black Wyvern

Title: Black Wyvern

Author: Rachel Ford

Quote: "Knight Protector Antonia Brocklehurst watched the rendezvous."

This is one of the shorter stories in a series of adventures, set in a world with some resemblance to medieval Europe, where girls and women do what boys and men did in European stories. With a little less violence.

Medieval European stories had far too much violence, in the real world, to suit me, so here's to girl knights guarding princesses, but I didn't get into the story. In feudal societies like this one, I kept thinking, daughters (and sons) were married off by their parents. Girls like Antonia weren't guarding princesses because, being married at peak fertility, they were having babies. Or dying from bacterial infections because the use of penicillin hadn't been discovered yet.

If that sort of thing doesn't put you off a story, you might be the ideal reader for the Knight Protector Series.
