At the time of writing I'm trying to enjoy what are likely to be the last good moments with Serena before I fall to pieces about losing her. I will add very little to the photo contest winners beyond the reminders to share them with everyone you know, rescue an animal from a shelter when you can, and not let the occasional violent crime against four-legged persons prevent you from enjoying animal companionship, any more than you'd let the occasional hatecrime against women prevent you from enjoying being, or being married to, a woman. Interspecies friendship is part of Nature's scheme of things.
Cyberspace is not a place of pleasant diversion this morning. Google is screaming for more cookies. Microsoft is screaming for a new computer. Petfinder is screaming for more information about site visitors, too. They all want to believe that if they make using our privately purchased computers less fun, we'll send them money. Let's not.
If we all just unplugged our computers and waited six months while rebuilding the computer-free world...the Internet might collapse, but there'd be more jobs and corporations would have learned something about how much money can be lost by entertaining a disrespectful thought about customers.
Zipcode 10101: Katy from New York
They think this classic mackerel tabby is young and open to new things, willing to be the only cat or one of a cat foster family. They know of no reason why anybody wouldn't love her.
Zipcode 20202: February from DC
The computer's not cooperating. She has half a dozen photos at her web page: https://www.petfinder.com/cat/february-72342195/dc/washington/doe-eyes-animal-sanctuary-and-rescue-inc-va855/
Some shelter workers self-sabotage. Before shelling out money for an animal, most humans want to know that they'll be able to bond, that the animal will fit into their family. This shelter tells people that February has some vet bills to be paid before she can come to their homes. Who's going to bond with a digital photo? She has a wonderful, distinctive coat, but is that enough of a base for a long-term relationship? Maybe you can reason with them. Maybe they want you to meet the cat at the shelter.
Zipcode 30303: Tulip and Poppy from Atlanta
Tulip is the one in front, in the photo, but they say she's generally the timid kitten who lets Poppy check things out first. These sisters have to be adopted together.
