Petfinder Post: King Charles Spaniels and Long-Haired Cats

The history of King Charles Spaniels has been discussed already in the post about Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Briefly, CKCs have been more rigorously bred to the (often sickly) original breed type, over the years, while KCs have been crossbred with some other breeds with the goal of improving their health and life expectancy. They are even smaller than CKCs and tend to have flatter faces.

Petfinder does not actually distinguish between these breeds. They list mostly crossbreeds, anyway. So although I did look for small dogs with flat faces...

Zipcode 10101: Finnegan from Flushing

Finnegan is described as a friendly dog who loves everybody regardless of species and likes attention.

Leonard from NYC

Leonard was the neighborhood stray cat for years, until his health started to fail. He is now a senior cat with veterinary appointments and a special diet. He's described as taking his time to warm up, then once he decides he likes you having cute little ways of showing affection (which may include nipping).

Zipcode 20202: Tensley & Teddy from Elizabethtown (Pennsylvania)

The other side of their family are full-sized Poodles. They don't really look like any of their relatives. Why make them feel bad about that? They're described as "incredibly sweet, affectionate dogs" who get on well with humans, dogs, and cats. They are being reserved for someone who owns a house with a fenced yard.

Molly from Silver Spring

Described as a sweet cat who gets on well with other cats as well as humans, Molly has some eyesight but not mich.

Zipcode 30303: Everest from Cumming

Not a very handsome specimen, Everest won the photo contest for KC/CKC spaniels in Atlanta easily because he was the only dog thought to be even a crossbreed from either of these breeds who is looking for a home in Georgia this week. He was rescued from one of those hoarding situations where the human has lost all hope of being able to care for the dogs and just keeps them locked up, sometimes in horrific conditions, and thinks that at least they're not going to be gassed like shelter dogs. He is untrained, bad-mannered, considered "traumatized"--not a real biter but a panic nipper, they say. He needs not only a house with a fenced yard but a human who's had some experience rehabilitating panicky, traumatized dogs. He will test his humans' patience but everyone will admire what a good job they've done with him.A

Poe from Decatur

About all they know about Poe is that he's a fairly large cat under his winter coat, in the 12-16-pound range.

Bonus Dog

Petfinder thought local lurkers just had to see Fetty Wop from Alabama, currently in a foster home in Kingsport.

Yes, that's the sort of view a lot of people have around here, and last night's brief dip below the freezing point of water means the fall foliage should be at peak color this weekend. Perfect weather to drive out and meet a handsome dog. Fetty Wop is named after a rapper who struck somebody as having a similar level of energy--high! He's described as "high velcro," willing to sit down and cuddle after a run, but he'll really want to go out and run again soon. He is a Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mix, which means a very active mind. He could do all kinds of "jobs" with some training. Without a job he might stoop to straying or shoe eating or some such thing. Talk to his foster humans only if you know you can keep up with him; smart, lively herding dogs like this one often land in shelters because humans can't match their pace--of moving or thinking.
