Title: Write Me a Chilling Murder

Quote: "She's been getting dreadful threats--"
Myrtle Glubber, the anti-glamorous heroine of Write Me a Murder and Write Me a Ghost Story, is cruising around Alaska this time. There's a hint of a faked murder or disappearance to give everyone something to think about, and a young woman disappears from the cruise right after everyone has met and liked her. But Myrtle's mind is on the death threats her old school friend Carmen has been getting. Carmen is as loud and tactless an extrovert as Myrtle is a grumpy, gluttonous introvert. Recently she's decided that her first name needs to be pronounced Israeli-style rather than American-style, and corrects everyone, loudly. Lots of people find Carmen annoying--but enough to kill her? Most people, including Myrtle and her friend Stanley, are just glad that she came with her own adoring husband and leaves them alone with their own cruise companions. (Myrtle and Stanley are fellow detectives not a couple. They're at the stage where they blush as they tell people this.)
So who's threatening Myrtle, and does the person mean to scare her or kill her? And how is it possible that Myrtle saw another passenger throw what looked like a body overboard, but then sees them enjoying dinner as usual? And what did happen to the young woman?
If this is a cozy murder mystery rather than a chilling one, at least it kept me smiling. I always enjoy Myrtle.
