Book Review: Baby-Sitters Beware

A Fair Trade Book

Title: Baby-Sitters Beware (Baby-Sitters Club Super Mystery #2)

Author: Ann M. Martin

Date: 1995

Publisher: Apple / Scholastic

ISBN: 0-590-22871-4

Length: 230 pages

Quote: “We now have a BSC mystery notebook. I just wish I’d thought of it sooner, because the BSC has…been involved in a number of mysteries. Such as the time Dawn Schafer realized that there was a petnapping ring…and the time Claudia spotted a clue in a photograph…This mystery, however, was a lot scarier.”

A car barely misses Stacey. Someone sets fire to the garbage cans outside Claudia’s house. The Baby-Sitters start to wonder whether someone is stalking them. So of course, in the best tradition of detective stories, they and their families all go off for a long weekend at a ski lodge, where it’ll be easier than ever for a stalker to track them down, one by one, if so inclined…

All’s well that ends well, of course, and although the Baby-Sitters have valid reasons to feel panicky (Abby sneezes and wheezes but doesn’t have a real asthma attack, from panic) nobody gets badly hurt. Kristy and her stepfather the millionnaire even bond. The Baby-Sitters get to be brave, and solve the mystery with only a little help from their friendly neighborhood policeman.

I prefer the Baby-Sitters when they’re baby-sitting rather than solving mysteries. Your preferences may differ. Anyway, the mystery spin-off is part of the Baby-Sitters Club series. To buy it here, send $5 per book + $5 per package (10-12 BSC books fit into a package) + $1 per online payment to either address at the very bottom of the page, below the Amazon gift card widget. If you pay offline by U.S. postal order, the Post Office will collect its own surcharge, so you don't send us the $1. The standard price for books at this web site is considered to be $10, even if we can fit ten books into one package for which you pay only $55; books whose authors are still alive are Fair Trade Books, for which we send 10% of the price, typically $1, to the author or a charity of the author's choice.
