Web Log for 9.22.24

Green

Keep up the pressure! We need to hold companies to a standard rule that, if it costs more than $100, it's guaranteed for your lifetime and no whining about its having a "lifetime" of its own--say, six months? Your lifetime should be estimated as up to 100 years (if I live longer than that I'll buy a computer to celebrate; wouldn't you?), so assuming that people who spend more than $100 are at least 10 years old, that's 90 years from the date of purpose. And that means no software changes or updates unless you want them because "updates" shorten computers' "lifespans" by, judging by the Net-free ones I've kept, forty years or more. That means Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc., must acknowledge that all devices are up to date, now, and those "necessary security updates" must stay in the cloud and not touch your device's memory or functionality.

History

Russian history explained by and for Americans. Well, under current conditions it's either too late or too early to let the Russians explain themselves.

Meme

I saw it at theviewfromladylake.blogspot.com. Google traces it to Nathan Weisal of Texas, on Linked In.

Reportedly Ds are trying to market Mean Girl's giggles and grins as "joy." Look again, people. That's how Mean Girls work--they show lots of toothage and speak in just slightly cloying tones when they're doing someone dirt. But Scott Adams Rumbled a good reply, this morning. She's not associated in his mind with joy-as-in-happiness, but she might reasonably be associated with Joy Reid.

Music

"A moment of peace."
