Is this even Bad Poetry?
John climbed into the car to go
to the wedding. His. But the battery was low.
He took out his phone to let Jane know.
But once again, the battery was low.
He thought of all the times he had done a no-show
for less excuse than this. But he said "No!
I will not let this occasion go."
He pounded on his car. People paid no
attention to that. They'd seen lunatics before.
In desperation, John waved down
a passing pickup truck.
Dogs were in the front.
John climbed into the back, and so
he arrived at the church only five minutes slow.
He had moments of fear that Jane would say no
at the last minute. She didn't, though.
They were married on that day twenty years ago.
They saw the cell phone era come and go.
Will cars and trucks last? They don't know.
One thing they can tell us, though,
is that it's good to work around a battery that is low.
This utterly frivolous story popped into mind as I read the Poets & Storytellers United poems on the theme of "low battery."
I had to laugh at this one. Oh the importance of a working battery Good that it worked out
ReplyDeleteHa ha.. glad John made it!! Cars and trucks will last...and we will pay the climate price for them, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteYes. How to generate enough electricity for electric cars, and...Well, yes, in order for electric cars to be a big improvement, we still have to make walking glamorous again.
DeleteI do know some young, cute trendsetters who are at least trying to carry it on, in my town! There's a White chick and a Black chick who always walk together for security, and they'll sing out as they walk into the cafe, "We're just out street-walking." A few more like them, and who knows?

Bad Poetry? I think it's excellent humorous poetry, as well as a great little yarn!
ReplyDeleteLovely story. Love story. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteFunny. I love it! Gotta work around those low batteries. I want some windup toys!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for Jane. I know this type:)
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned below, I don't see this couple as Mensa candidates. However, it's possible that he tried to charge his batteries and was foiled by unpredictable extreme weather. When it's really hot and humid, or really cold, batteries will not hold a charge!
DeleteHaha ... love the rhythm and the rhyme. Dear Jane got a man who didn't bother to boost his batteries before he set off to get wed. :)
ReplyDeleteHahahaa!
ReplyDeleteTotally hilarious! How much we rely on an electric current.
This "utterly frivolous" write is absolutely delightful!!!
ReplyDeleteThank youall for visiting and commenting...Yes, John's not the brightest star that ever shone. I don't imagine Jane could stay on the Dean's List and keep a full-time job at the same time, either. Somehow they get by :-)
