Title: Succulent Wild Woman
Title: Succulent Wild Woman
Date: 1997
Publisher: Fireside / Simon &a Schuster
Length: 184 pages of graphics and calligraphy, many in color
Quote: “Succulent: ripe, juicy, whole, round, exuberant, wild, rich, wide, deep, firm, rare, female.”
This is Sark’s take on feminism: “Live a wild, vulnerable life. Let us see you,. laughing loudly, walking flamboyantly, and wearing colors that don’t match... Sometimes I see women who look like captives. Dry and hunted, they scurry from curb to car. They look too thin and not joy-full. They don’t go out unless it’s with a man, or to the ‘right event.’ Like blades, they are sharp and can be dangerous. Go out wildly and alone or with a selection of outrageous women friends. Go out in all your wild glory.”
Once in a while an extrovert reads a book, so let's direct that reader to page 44: “We can develop self-entertaining skills...There is bravery and confidence involved in being self-entertaining, yet the more you develop these skills, the more others will want to be with you!”
This book also contains more about sex than Grandma would have thought was really necessary. The sexuality section isn’t grossly detailed, but it is written from the point of view of a survivor of sexual abuse helping other survivors to enjoy sex. Young women whose sexual experience has not been abusive, who are trying to resist temptation, may want to choose a different one of Sark's books.
Succulent Wild Woman does also offer more nice Sark-type reflections on creative work and family love. And money, friendship, and support groups. It also contains very succulent bibliographies. It’s recommended to women who are (or are soon to be) married, and their husbands.
Although Sark seems to be the one marketing her books on Amazon, you can buy them as Fair Trade Books here as well. Send salolianigodagewi @ yahoo $5 per book + $5 per package shipped, and we'll count that as a total of $10 for each of Sark's books we sell and send Sark or a charity of her choice $1.
