Book (?) Review: The Priest the Beast and the Bride

Title: The Priest the Beast and the Bride

Author: Bowen Gillings

Date: 2023

Publisher: Bowen Gillings

Quote: "Roderick the priest feared that if things didn't run perfectly the baron would send him and his soup-making wife to the far north."

This e-book earns full marks for effrontery. Not only is it a short story billed as a book, but the story itself is an elaborate naughty joke.

Saving grace? Well...at least we know the priest is not Catholic, so it's not an anti-Catholic joke. The priest is not identified with any other religion that exists in our world. So, nobody's being insulted with the suggestion that their church ordains priests who've never learned to excuse themselves and go to the bathroom to relieve discomfort caused by eating cabbage soup, much less to reduce the discomfort by drinking plenty of water.

Really...there was something amusing about a try-to-be-funny story being slipped in among the romances and thrillers during the Booktober Blitz. And if you want to watch little boys roll about, pawing and whinnying with laughter, you could do worse than read this story. Little girls will, however, say "Eww, ick" and "Grow up, boys."

I've always been glad I started out in life as a little girl.
