Mini-Book Review: The Mystery of the Stunned Soprano

Title: The Mystery of the Stunned Soprano

Author: E.L. Johnson

Date: 2023

Publisher: E.L. Johnson

Quote: "Rachel, you're clever. You look into this."

Rachel the amateur detective, a would-be singer who's not even a member of the Carnation University choir, just happens to be backstage and hear a scuffle in which the lead soprano is knocked unconscious. By talking to each of the other girls who were near enough to have done it, none of whom liked their bandmate much, Rachel finds out which one hit Ashley and with what.

This detective story really is a freestanding short story--sort of a prose chapbook. Publishers have not found it profitable to print such short stories as separate books but the Internet makes it possible. If you want a super-short mystery in which nobody's even maimed, this one is for you.
