Some of the more attractive candidates have declined to run for, or serve as, President of the United States. It's not hard to see why people like Elizabeth Hanford Dole preferred to be cabinet secretary, and/or First Lady, but not President: Presidents are hounded wherever they go, blamed for everything that goes wrong during their administrations, and not infrequently shot at by lunatics. Mitt "Why Would I Even Bother to Pretend to Be a Man of the People" Romney is demanding full Secret Service protection already, as is Rick Santorum, because the hordes of celebrity hounds really are stressful. Even frightening.
Nevertheless, although this post is primarily a call for more civility and common decency toward our elected and election-seeking officials...
