Bad News from Nigeria

So, since when have we had any good news from Nigeria? I don't know. Anyway, here's Marla's report:

As my comment on the page indicates, this is blatant heresy, misrepresentation of what the Koran actually says. Muhammad authorized Muslims to discriminate against Jews and Christians in Muslim territory in some specific ways: they can be required to pay higher taxes since they don't make religious donations, zakat; they aren't ordinarily invited to be present when Muslims are eating or praying; Muslim men can marry Jewish or Christian women, but Muslim women may not marry Jewish or Christian men, due to the cultural expectation that children will be brought up in their father's religious tradition...and that's supposed to be about as far as it goes.

"Muslim" literally means "one who practices peace." "Pacifying" certain Pagan cults was historically interpreted to mean killing or banishing the ones who didn't convert, but Jews and Christians were exempted from this treatment under the "practice of peace."

This web site calls on any Muslim readers we may have to denounce the Boko Haram group as heretics...even blasphemers. If it were credibly reported that a Christian group were treating Muslims in this way, I'd be the first to say, "Not in our name." I know we have a few readers in Muslim countries, so, Muslims, please identify yourselves and say "Not in our name" here.
