Prefer Homosexuals to Veterans? HB692

Virginia House Bill #689 would, if enacted, designate homosexuals as a protected minority group and remove preferences for veterans in state employment. Full text:

This is not the anti-discrimination language we need. A better anti-discrimination bill has already been filed:

This bill would, if enacted, ban discrimination based on any reason "not related to qualifications, ability, or performance." That means no questions about "sexual preferences" can be asked, although harassing others by talking about "sexual preferences" on the job might be penalized. It also provides a way to thank veterans who deserve thanks because their service has in fact contributed to their job qualifications, without forcing anyone to pretend that a slob who didn't contribute anything while enlisted is entitled to the same treatment as a war hero.

HB613 is the anti-discrimination bill we need. HB692 will do most good if used to light the furnace.
