Wear Orange Day

Time for a silly, whimsical post...why not one about the color orange? Some marketing type has declared this to be "Wear Orange Day."

"Is orange the new pink?" asked the blogger known as Stonekicking Okapi, and although I remember a tag line from an old movie there, I have to say: No. Pink is pink. Orange is orange.

Of course, there is a range of colors that can be produced by mixing pink and orange, which merchants call by names like coral, salmon, peach, melon, cantaloupe, mango, guava, papaya, pink grapefruit, red rock, sunset pink, baby orange, orange sherbet...

(Like bridesmaids.) Black, white, gray, brown, and beige can look really unflattering to some people. Denim blue, light blue-green, and medium pinkish orange are not everyone's best colors but they don't seem to be anyone's worst colors, either, which is more than can be said for the colors that aren't on the color wheel.

At Buckingham Palace true orange may be most likely to be seen on Prince Harry's head...

But coral pink is perfectly appropriate for a garden party..

Fortunately I, personally, don't have to wear orange to participate in this Internet-generated holiday; I do own some coral-pink shirts and dresses, but I didn't put one on this morning. When I went to Wal-Mart I found a big sale on these tiny, intensely flavored fruits. I'm eating oranges today.
