New Book Review: Vigorous Defense

Title: Vigorous Defense

Author: Audrey Walker

Date: 2023

Publisher: Audrey Walker

Quote: "Every citizen deserves a vigorous defense in a court of law."

Bobby Kaminski, counsel for the defense, is more interested in beating the counsel for the prosecution than he is in proving his client not guilty of murder. However, when Giselle Norwood, forensic pathologist, agrees to examine the evidence, the proof that the victim wasn't murdered just leaps off the pages.

"Medical thrillers" are a sometimes disgusting, but enjoyable, genre of cozy detective stories. The more you know about odd but documented causes of death, or of illness, the easier it is to prove whodunit--or, more likely, didn't do it. If you enjoy a mystery where the death turns out not to have been a murder, this subgenre is for you. Walker has already written a series about the further adventures of Giselle Norwood. If you enjoy meeting her in this short prequel, you can buy full-length e-books about her and make the series grow.

The story is so short we don't see much of Giselle, but what we do see is easy to like. What readers may or may not like about Vigorous Defense is that it's likely to make them want the rest of the series.
