Bad Poetry: Ode to the Internet

The topic was proposed at Poets & Storytellers United, and the form was proposed at DVerse, this morning. Everyone who chose to write about their favorite modern convenience chose something to do with the Internet, except for one who wrote about the teapot.

Every Internet writer's most favorite mod. con.
Is the medium in which our works are set.
Given free choice of topics to write poems on,
Almost all choices were a safe bet:
We're fascinated by the Internet.

The digital camera's inspiring to some.
The heights to which cameras have gone
Inspire all those whose thoughts readily come
Through the eyes and the things they gaze on:
Yes, the camera's a favorite mod. con.

The networking is the best part for some others.
Instant contact, from bigotry free as can get,
Anonymous, makes strangers sisters and brothers.
Some people, once bonded, have actually met!
What a medium in which works to set!

Some of us are in love with the look of our blogs.
Print them, ring-bind them, sell at a con!
Flowers or butterflies, food, cars, or dogs,
We can log every phenomenon,
Having choice of what to write blogs on!

Disagreements cause some people fear,
Yet no one has disputed, as yet,
The truth that emerges so clear:
Any niche topic followers can get;
Almost any choice is a safe bet.

Its expense is too high to sustain,
And its future's uncertain, as yet.
Censorship makes it dwindle and wane,
While free forums few paid sponsors get.
Still, we all enjoy our Internet.

  2. The dawn of the internet did charge a lot of things very quickly, so it's no wonder it'd be top of mind for a lot of people. Me, I still like breathing.

  8. I, too, enjoy the Internet. But I can't say that it was the first thing that came to mind. My heat pad and foam roller were way higher on my list. 😅

  9. Thank you for visiting and commenting, dear poets...I came to Magaly Guerrero's poem late. It's short, snarky, and delightful.
