Allen West Shifts Fundraising Focus (Update)

Many Tea Partiers have received a version of this letter. It's worth sharing here because this is not the cause for which Allen West usually requests money...

" Dear Priscilla,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today.

Yesterday, Oklahoma was devastated by a powerful, two-mile wide tornado, which destroyed the entire town of Moore. Among the victims were elementary school students who were in class when the tornado directly hit their school.

Days like today are when I'm most proud of this nation...when our fellow citizens put politics, prejudices, and selfishness aside to come to the aide of those in need.

If you are able, I hope you'll join me in making a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support the survivors in Oklahoma. Below are four ways you can make a difference:

  1. Use this link to donate online;
  2. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to donate by phone;
  3. Complete this form, print it out, and mail a check to: American Red Cross, PO Box 4002018, Des Moines, IA 50340-2018; or
  4. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 (which will appear on your wireless bill).

If you are able, I encourage you to also give blood, volunteer, or take a CPR or first aid course. While it may not directly help the Oklahoma survivors today, it's always wise to be prepared.

Allen West
Lt. Col. Allen B. West, USA (ret)
U.S. Congressman (2011-2013) "

P.S. from P.K.: After I read and shared this e-mail, below it, which means it went out sooner, was Jason Howerton's report, with photos of Oklahoma, basketball star Kevin Durant, and a link to Glenn Beck's fundraising appeal on behalf of Moore:

Right. Enough is enough. Those of you who watch television in the U.S. could probably draw a map of Moore from memory by now.
