Book Review: Dog Gone Troubles

Title: Dog Gone Troubles

Author: Karen McSpade

Date: 2022

Publisher: Karen McSpade

Quote: "[W]alking into the office still felt special--like I had made it somehow. The truth, however, was that...my coffee-making abilities remained the thing that the other office staff prized most about me."

This is the very first story about Sidney Grace, protagonist of the Crystal Beach psychic/witch series. Here we're introduced to a very young Sidney, convinced that her grandmother has magic powers but that she is merely a "butterfingers," regretting that her grandparents have decided to move to Crystal Beach. At this stage Sidney needs grandparents more than most twenty-somethings seem to do. Especially when, determined to find the dog she allowed to slip away when the rich lady asked her to hold his lead, she has to confront a pistol-packing dognapping scammer.

Trigger warning: These novels feature the TV-sitcom kind of "witches"--not Satanists, not even Pagans, but ordinary women who happen to be born with TV-star looks and psychic powers. In the fictive world of the series that's just the way things happen. If you believe that all things "paranormal" are either (a) scams, (b) satanic, or (c) both, you will not like this series.

Otherwise, you'll probably love it.
