Book Review: Monkeying Around

Title: Adventures of the Minecraft Twins--Monkeying Around

Author: Rick Redstone

Quote: "The twins were in the snow biome..."

...of the computer game called Minecraft, which Redstone is not officially licensed to use. Jack and Mindy, the twins n this series, have a little secret from the parents who let them play this online game: their dog has the magical ability to enter the Minecraft world, taking them along...or sometimes not. In this short adventure, the dog brings back a "pixelated" Minecraft-world monkey that screeches, smells, and throws things just like a real monkey. Can the children send the monkey back to the tropical biome of Minecraft and get the mess cleaned up before their parents come home?

No endorsement of Minecraft or any other computer game is implied by my reviewing this short chapter book for grades three to five. I know some kids and parents like Minecraft. Some hate it. Some say it's a snare of Satan. I've always been too busy doing grown-up things on the computer to have any idea what they're talking about. The story is the story...sort of a variation on The Cat in the Hat, but for middle grade students who need to write a book report fast, here is a short fast-reading book.
