Southern Growth Policies Board's 2012 Chairman's Conference:
Re-imagining Workforce Development
Re-imagining Workforce Development
June 25-26, 2012
The Chattanoogan Hotel & Conference Center Chattanooga, Tennessee
Southern Growth Policies Board’s 2012 Chairman’s Conference, hosted by Governor Bill Haslam of Tennessee, examined job and workforce trends, with a view towards reimagining tomorrow’s educated worker. This included exploring tough questions, such as: How can we determine the skills needed for future jobs when we’re not sure what those jobs will be? How can we raise awareness of potential career paths and opportunities? What are the implications for P-16? ( See below, P16 is Common Core ) What is the business perspective and what role will the business sector play in this preparation? And, perhaps most importantly, how do we connect the dots between different players—from K-12 to community colleges to universities to industry? In addition to exploring these and other important questions, the conference highlighted new models and ideas in the areas of education and workforce skill development.

What is P-16? It's Common Core
( Human Resource Development for the "Common Cause" )
P-16 is the shorthand term for a student-focused, comprehensive and integrated system that links all education levels from preschool (P) through post-secondary. It is a powerful framework for citizens and policymakers to use to improve teaching and learning and thus better prepare students for living, learning, and working in a changing world.
Regional Mission Statement
Consistent with the statewide guidelines for TN P-16 initiatives, the Mid-East TN Regional P-16 Council will collaborate with the ten-county area to link regional youth in Pre K-16 to education, career preparation, workforce and economic development promoting an educated citizenry and healthy economy.--
