In the 85th District, Jeremy Waters received 541 votes; the easiest way I could figure out to squeeze the Byler/Taylor vote counts onto the page was to delete the third place finisher from the table.

Patricia Evans' correspondent, Mike McHugh, comments:

"First, if you want to beat the establishment you must not split the vote.
Second, winning only two out of eight races at first may seem disappointing but it is actually quite impressive when we drill down to the details.
Third, tea party patriots won two of three competitive races.
The other races were NOT competitive or serious challenges to the GOP political establishment.
Finally, we should take our hats off to all the candidates who ran against establishment republicans.
These campaigns are called issue advocacy or send-a-message campaigns.
The challenger has no intention of running a serious campaign to win but instead runs to plant or water the seed of their message or issue.
Each of these candidates had the courage to face the 'Goliath' of the republican establishment.
They furthered whatever specific issues they talked about in their campaigns.
They sent the message to the establishment, "Sell us out and pay a price".
They exposed the records, duplicity and sometimes the corruption of their opponents - which can have great utility in two years.
