Book Review for 7.4.24: Death on the Doorstep

Title: Death on the Doorstep

Author: Alisha  Kay

Quote: "You can cast a bewitching spell on him, to make him do your bidding."

Well, it's different from your usual romantic comedy or mystery. I'm not even sure which it's meant to be. What I received is probably a small part of a longer book, although it's not explained as such.

Anyway, Sitara defied her conservative British Indian parents to marry a White man, a good friend from school. Eighteen months later he told her he "was in love" with someone else and wanted a divorce. Sitara moved out at once, but her feelings are still doing a slow burn when her parents invite themselves to spend Christmas break with the happy couple (Sitara never bothered to explain to them about the divorce). The two young women shamelessly fight over a man who doesn't sound worth that much of either woman's time.

When Sitara walks through the instructions for a relatively sweet and simple spell, burning a letter in a lavender candle, there's a chill in the room. She sees the other woman...or does she? Has her husband's new wife committed suicide on the doorstep?

That's as far as my "book" goes. Would you ever pay for a book marketed with alleged free copies that break off after chapter three? I don't recommend it. If Alisha Kay wants to send an actual book, she can hope for a better star rating than this one's earned.
